Site preparation

If your main goal is to grow timber, site preparation may be a viable management practice. It is performed after harvest, before the next crop is planted, and eliminates competitive species that can interfere with seedling development. After site preparation, seedlings will have virtually no vegetation to compete against, improving survival and growth. Site preparation tools include Accord® XRT II, Accord® Concentrate, DMA® 4 IVM, Forestry Garlon® XRT, Garlon 3A, Tordon® K, Tordon 101M, Transline® and Vista® herbicides.

Herbaceous release

For the intense landowner wanting to grow timber quickly, herbaceous release is an excellent follow-up to site preparation. However, herbaceous release is also effective without site preparation, because it reduces competition and improves survival and growth for naturally regenerated or planted seedlings. Herbaceous release is a smart decision in warm-temperature states that don’t receive winter freezes. The following can be used alone or in tank mixes for release applications: Accord Concentrate, Forestry Garlon XRT, Pathway®, Pathfinder® II, Garlon 3A and Transline herbicides.

Mid-/Late rotation release

If halfway through your stand’s life you realize it could use a little extra boost, mid/late-rotation release may be what your stand needs to improve tree growth. Oftentimes, the technique is performed along with fertilization. Dow AgroSciences offers a variety of herbicides suitable for mid- and late-rotation release, including Accord Concentrate, Accord XRT II, Garlon 3A, Forestry Garlon XRT and Vista herbicides.
